2009 WASSAIL
Our Wassail was on Saturday 5th January.  Over 100 people joined the procession around the orchard to "Wassail" our trees.  Fortunately, it was a fine evening although the orchards were muddy.  Everyone was welcomed around the campfires with a glass of cider before setting off.  John Edwards our Butler together with Mike and Sophia led the torchlight procession around the orchards.  We then gathered round one of the oldest apple trees in the camping orchard for the Wassail ceremony to ensure a good harvest.

As always, our thanks to Tina and Alan for the coverage on their news and the photos of Chicken Led Zeppelin.

John , our Butler, leads the Wassail toast.

It is customary to hoist a small boy, known as Tomtit, into the tree to leave pieces of cider soaked bread for the birds.

Compost Heap joined us for the evening and led the communal singing of the traditional Wassail songs.

Some more photos of our Wassailers.

After the ceremony, we adjourned to the barn for a party.  Compost Heap and Chicken Shed Zeppelin provided the music.  As always, Hilary and John served excellent food.  There was enough mulled cider, cider, perry and beer to ensure that we all had a good night!
