Cider Festival 2003

The first Ross-on-Wye Cider Festival took place on Saturday 16th August at the Yew Tree Inn by kind permission of Phil and Lyn Ballinger.  Phil also arranged for the marquee to be erected - for which many thanks to him and all those who helped on one of the hottest days of the year!

The event was hosted by the Ross-on-Wye Cider & Perry Company Ltd based at Broome Farm.  In addition to Mike Johnson of Broome Farm eight other local cider producers were in attendance to talk about their cider and perry and offer both draught and bottled product for tasting and sale.  Hilarys’ Broome Farm Cider Cake was also available and quickly sold out!

A cider making demonstration was provided by Peter Keam from Wigmore with his mobile press and the delicious freshly pressed apple juice was a great hit particularly with the children.

Through the afternoon musical entertainment was provided by local musicians and later by blues/slide guitarist Will Killeen, finishing up in the evening with an excellent two hours from the River Gypsies.  The Foxwhelp Morris dancers also put on a performance in the late afternoon sunshine.
